Found this 1981 Canadian 1 cent today and I think it was struck through a very long thread. I'm going to go with what you think it is. Did some close ups and don't forget the circulation and enviro damage over time. What do you think!!

Doesn't look like any struck through thread I've ever seen. just glue? Can you give it a soak in acetone?

This coin from the beginning had no residue on it and I gave it 2 acetone baths and cleaned under hot running water to clean the grove from the dirt that was in it. The coin is down to metal just stained. I did give close ups of the grove for inspections.

It looks like some type of chemical attack to me. Most of the region to the "left" is discoloured. I assume that liquid to air interface corrosion caused the deeper crevice. Its a common issue in liquid storage tanks. Essentially the corrosion is greatest at that interface compared to the submerged surface.
