CAC - This coin was designed by Benjamin Franklin Peale, who, unsurprisingly, went by "Franklin Peale." Peale was a medalist, employed at the Mint (1833-54) as an assayer, melter, refiner, and finally as chief coiner. This coin's popular design was Peale's rendition of the popular 1836 Gold Dollar pattern (J-67 through J-71), created by
Christian Gobrecht. This piece is graded CAC PR62.
