Any opinions on the authenticity of this 1860 O dollar? It's on an online estate auction so I only have pictures of the coin. There are 3 days left and the high bid is $125. Thanks very much for any help.

The images are so poor it's hard to tell. I would assume it to be counterfeit without better images.

to the CCF, JoelP!
BH1964 makes a really good point. With these pictures and no data on weight, etc., it's impossible to tell if it is genuine. Are returns allowed? But I'm sure the bidding will increase greatly on it. Without the ability to examine it in hand, I would definitely pass on it.

Thanks for the info, I think you're both right, I'll pass on the coin, it's also not in any type of holder
I will ask the auction if they guarantee authenticity.

This coin looks 100% genuine and I would feel comfortable paying reasonable money from only these photos. There are no red flags that I see, except the old cleaning that is visible in the left obverse field.

I agree it looks okay in these low-res images from a foot away.

There are also counterfeit Seated dollars so good they have been certified genuine by PCGS & NGC and this is a $1,000 coin. Unless someone were selling it cheap with full return privileges there is no sense risking it.

Images a bit shaky ... I would want to weigh and test ... no opinion here.
