Hello,

I came across this nickel the other day which has what appears to be an exposed copper layer, but it may just be damage or chemical exposure.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Some kind of environmental damage. It's PMD.

Well it is not a lamination, a nickel is 75% copper 25% Nickel alloy - meaning it is all mixed together.

I think your coin is either very stained or has been heated to make the copper content rise to the surface.

Could be a brown stain of some sort, not necessarily actually copper, just copper/brown in color.

Thank you! I figured it was probably staining or something.
