I'm trying to decide if I should bid on this...any thoughts as to its condition? Or, for that matter, guesses as to what it EVEN IS? The photography used on ebay sometimes astounds and amazes me. Enjoy!

I wouldn't pay over $6.00 for "dark air" in an empty 2x2 ! ...... Those "are" really nice staples though.....perhaps you could recycle them.....

How much is the seller charging for this thing that may or not be a coin?

I might give 1 cent for it, but hard to say from that photo.

John1 that was an excellent guess, unless you saw this on ebay as well. I knew it was an 1886 because that's what I was looking for originally. But Mtn's guess of a "black hole in a holder" is an excellent guess as well!

I knew it was an 1866 IHC because of the image filename.

The seller might be claiming that it's an 1886, but you won't know for sure unless you actually see the coin, something you can't do with that photo.

But Tony is right, one cannot know for sure from that photo! To answer your question, I would pass on it, but you might bid on it as if it were a common date, AG "details" IHC. The picture might keep away the $40+ bidders. Who knows, you might get lucky and it ends up being a decent coin.

That's a good point, Jbuck. I actually looked into doing that but I think the shipping cost alone is higher than the value of that coin, unless it's seriously in better condition than what I would imagine.
