I see some scratches on Liberty's face and and in the left field. It has been in a cardboard Merry Christmas $5 gold coin holder for close to 100 years, from my Great Aunt who lived to be 103. I use a grading spreadsheet I created several years ago. grading surface preservation, strike, luster and eye appeal each side separately from 1-5. surface preservation is double weighted. both sides are totaled and then an average numeric grade is determined. The actual grade of the coin is determined based on this average grade. it can be used for any MS coin regardless of type. for me it gives me more consistency in my grading your coin falls has a 14.5 average on my scale making it a high MS61 low MS62 coin which actually matches the other grades posted here. I would call it MS62 as gold is little more lenient in grading when it comes to surface preservation. Report this Post to the Staff
