Benicia is a small town near San Francisco, California. It was a US Army base during the California Gold Rush and was briefly the state capitol in the 1850's.

The Benicia Museum has a few small Roman and Greek coins on display.

The upper left coin is a Roman coin of the emperor Antoninus Pius.

Hard to tell from the photos, but they don't look authentic.

It seems odd that they'd have ancient coins, unless they were owned by General Vallejo or his wife Benicia. Seems more appropriate to have a collection of the coins that might have been used by the vallejos. Very doubtful they spent ancient coins in Alta California but the General was quite the gentelman so might have collected them.

I suspect they have them because some local collector's heir in the area didn't want them and didn't want to sell them, so donated them to the museum.

The Corinthian colt at top left does have very suspicious-looking patina, but the others seem fine. I'd be reluctant to condemn them just based off these photos.

Another coin on display at the nearby Benicia State Capitol building, a half dollar from the year that Benicia was the state capitol:

United States half dollar 1853

This coin looks like it has seen some service.
