I have seen you can do nickels and maybe silver coins but is it possible to do copper coins?
I have a CULL 1796-1807 Draped Bust Large Cent and curiosity is just killing me on what date it could be. OK, I know it's dangerous working with acids and I have read some of the other posts but I was wondering what might work.
I would just keep it and enjoy it as it is. Using chemicals to bring out the date would reduce the value, unless perhaps it was an NC-3. Are any of the legends visible? Sometimes Cuds and die breaks will identify a specific year/die pair.
My Cull is a slug. PO-1 or I like the designation BS-1 better. I got 4 bucks in it, no big loss if it gets destroyed. I just think it would be neat if a 17xx year date was raised. It actually looks better in the pictures than in person!
Yeah...I see what you mean. $4 isn't too bad for an experiment. Still...with the detail left, somebody may be able to narrow down a possible date. I'm not that good with DBCs.
I would like to try this some day, actually. If anyone knows anything that could work on this, I would be interested in acid dating some LC's, since some dates are pretty scarce.
