1908 Barber Quarter Planchet Error Before Being Struck Up.

GMS5 Pillar of the Community Canada 1538 Posts	Posted 04/08/2025 10:30 am I picked this quarter up at a coin show this past weekend. It was sold to me as a Details Scratched coin and the price was extremely cheap. After my inspection, I can see the scratch is UNDER the bust truncation as well as the hair ribbon, meaning it was done before the coin was struck up. Also, there is the start of a die break at the truncation neck point and a small die chip. All the details are present on this coin and I say it's AU-55. Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

GMS5 Pillar of the Community Canada 1538 Posts	Posted 04/08/2025 11:12 am There is no metal displaced above the field, the only thing above would be the die chip and the start of the die break at the tip of the neck. The scratch or possible strike through is under the neck and hair ribbon. Report this Post to the Staff

On top of the Ribbon you can see a line of disturbance in the same direction of the main strike through, what looks like a pitted die.
