I once attempted to electroplate a few copper-nickel clad coins with copper. I can't remember exactly what I did, but it went something like this. First step, I had two copper pennies in a salty solution hanging into a cup both clamped to electrodes wired to a 9v battery. After the pennies wore out, I placed a coin to be plated into the solution. Some coins I put stickers or little pieces of tape to try making a design. There was a piece of tape over the shield on that Pennsylvania quarter. They're greenish now, but they were a lot more browner years ago. The blackish dime, I extracted an old silver-plated spoon, and the pewter went onto the copper-clad dime. I didn't do the zinc-plated pennies. I have found coin roll hunting a number of zinc plated pennies.
