Anyone else have these?

History for those who either don't know/forgot: The altered coins are Washington Statehood Quarters honoring the state of California that entered circulation in 2005. They feature George Washington on the front, as usual, but a colorized version of the Silver Surfer character on the back to promote the upcoming movie, "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer". 40,000 were put into circulation throughout the country by the end of 2007 Memorial Day weekend, and about 800 were released in each state.

And then the legal trouble started...

Yeah, I seem to remember these stupid things going for $100+ for a month or so on ebay Of course, they are nothing more than a novelty now. I own one of the original altered state quarters- the Paul Jackson Missouri quarter. He won the design contest for Missouri but then the Mint altered his design and he was not happy about it. He then printed up stickers of his own design and started affixing them to Missouri quarters in protest.

Dan Carr, the designer of the New York and Rhode Island State Quarters had the same problem with his submission for the Maine quarter. He didn't create a decal though, he just minted his own version of the coin.

That movie did stink. I can't believe people paid such money for this kind of stuff. A fool and his money are easily parted.
