Is This Considered An Error Indian Head Penny?

Realizedgain10 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 05/20/2025 04:07 am Came across this the other day and I'm very new to collecting coins at least I'm new to the knowledgeable world of it, been collecting for several years however I haven't taken my hobby much further than the acquisition stage would love to get some more information on this and other coins from this impressive group of experts here! Thanks in advance, I'd love to know any and all information, ie, is this considered an error? Is it considered collectible or desirable or is it just junk? How rare or not is it? Is it worth anything, etc. It weighs significantly less than a normal Indian Head penny, as if it's missing a couple of layers. Report this Post to the Staff

Sap Moderator Australia 16806 Posts	Posted 05/20/2025 04:17 am It is indeed "missing some layers", but unfortunately, the reason it is missing some mass is it has had a soak in acid or some such corrosive liquid - or perhaps it was a heavily corroded metal detector find which has been cleaned. Being covered in pits and craters is a sure sign the coin has been corroded by something. Either way, it is not an error, sorry. It's just a damaged coin now.
