I had this recently graded because it is a great looking coin but I still cannot figure out the value as I cannot find it in the Charlton Catalogue not can I find any examples on ebay or elsewhere. Can anyone help me to identify where it comes from? Is this from a set of some kind?

This was a business strike with nearly 29 million minted. It is in the Charlton under "Twenty Five Cents 2004P Poppy". It is also the first coloured circulation coin in Canada. In MS65, it is worth around $20:00.

This one isn't colorized. Is there a way to remove the color and still get an MS-65 grade?

Didn't notice that it wasn't colourized, The colour is easily removed but I don't think it should have been graded as it is technically damaged. You can also throw that value I gave you out the window.

The 2005p Poppy coin was colorised and encased in a plastic bookmark. It will be found in Charlton Vol. Two Shame on CCCS for grading such a damaged coin ! Worth only 25cents but still an interesting item.

cbernard. DBM is correct. This is the same coin design as the 2004 gold plated poppy silver 25 cent. The poppy is actually struck. The normal circulation is pad marked. Being struck also orients the poppy exactly. It's a keeper, too bad it's colourless.

Your coin looks identical to the 2004 Mint Report quarter, save for the date, and that "struck" poppy was gold plated...coin is silver (I think 50%) and poppy being gold in colour. It was a "rarer" coin as only 15,000 in the report, were produced. Yours HAD a painted red "struck" poppy as already mentioned above... for what it is worth, this site shows it with a mintage of 30,000 and a mint state value of 3.91 US dollars. @cbernard - - - Acetone will remove the colouring from Canadian coloured coins. Just checked up, it will also remove colouring on enamelled coins. ..

I suspect removing the coin from it's epoxy blister probably ruined the colour somewhat or totally.
