Appearance of slag in coins:

"Slag inclusions in coins are a type of alloy error. They can manifest as visible dark or light streaks on the coin's surface or border. In extreme cases, a larger piece of slag might become embedded and rise to the surface of the coin, potentially even falling out after striking and leaving a hole."
