I have 2 coins (forgive me if I have posted them before) I know where they are from but I am not sure of individual grades or values. I did look up the Portugal coin on ebay and there was one listed as "rare" but they all say that right?

thanks for any help
malissa

ALSO, I am curious if that green stuff is verdigris or if it is removable somehow? I'd rather not experiment that way but I am curious. thanks

1797 Portugal 3 Reis KM#308, looks to be VF-20, value about $12.00. The green stuff does look like the start of verdigris.

1819-R Brazil 10 Reis, KM#314.1. I'd grade this one at EF-40, value about $22.00.

Both very nice coins.

thanks echizento,

so if that is the start of verdigris is there anything that can be done? Or would attempting anything ruin the coin?

It coul also be PVC damage. It is removable by soaking the coin in some acetone. This does not damage the coin it will only dissolve soft things. It is a very safe way of cleaning coins just don't rub the coin or brush it. You can pick it up at any pharmacy.
