Hmm, I think this will be a coin that will grow on people. It is simple, but I think on a cent it will look okay, too much detail does on such a small an insignificant coin might just make people not care. Besides, it might confuse a lot of people, how many states are there? they are asked, they get their coin out and count, haha!

That is just awful.
So does the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts have the final say? Or is this just their recommendation?

It kinda looks like a game token you would get at Chuck E Cheese Pizza. I don't get it.

No, you are right that it is just a recommendation, but the final decision is made by the Secretary of the Treasury not the Mint Director.
there are two commissions that make recommendations, the CFA and CCAC (Citizen Committe on Arts and Coinage) The CCAC recommended one of the shield designs, I don't remember which one.
When the Sec makes his decision he can follow the advise of one of the commissions, chuck both of them and select whichever one he wants, or reject all of them and call for more designs. But since were are actually running way behind on getting this design selected I don't think he will do that last choice. (The Mint claims it takes something like 13 months to work the bugs out of a new design. The 2010 cent hasn't even been chosen yet, but it will go into production in about five months.) I think he is more likely to select the CCAC recommendation than that of the CFA. I think the Mint would prefer the CFA design because it will strike up easily and they would have no concerns about relief.

Having learned my lesson from the 2009 cents, I will reserve judgment until I see an actual 2010 cent with whatever design they choose. The drawings are always a little "off" in my opinion.

I am not saying I like it, just that I will wait before admitting it one way or another.

Just a thought, With all the thought and time that was put( or not put ) into this IDEA one would think that this would all of been decided long ago. I do believe that the powers to be are very over their heads and would bet a rash, quick decision, as usual, will be made........

Having thought about this I don't think it will be selected or last long if it is. The 34 stars will look wrong to most people. The back is supposed to symbolize the preservation of the Union. 34 stars, however is the flag of the nation that fell apart. The nation that Lincoln preserved at the end of the war had 36 states.
I kind of hope it gets selected, just to see if there is public outcry of some sort.

Uhhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh? I was pretty speechless that day. This has to be one of the worst decisions these people have ever made. If they make this coin I will stop collecting Lincoln cents altogether. That design is just horrid. I love my country, I love my flag but this is horrible.
