I would like to submit some coins to a grading service such as PCGS but am not totally familiar with what would disqualify a coin from receiving a grade. It know it isn't a cheap endeavor so I am hoping not to waist to much money. Bought some coins on ebay which appeared to be problem free (unknowing of dings, scratches, etc...) some MS64-65. See posting regarding buying on ebay .

Cleaning ,Damage, authenticity, are some of the things that will keep PCGS from grading and slabbing your coins.

You did not mention any specific coin type ?

PCGS also forces you to purchase a $99/year membership in their submission club just to have the right to submit coins to them so if you arent looking to spend much money, that isn't the way to go.

Would ANACS be a better alternative in his case?

I have a few Morgans I would grade MS64-66 that I would like to have graded. I am not sure if MS63 or less would be worth grading unless they are harder or key dates. It seems to me that PCGS gets the most respect out of the top grading companies, however, NGC and ANACS do well when it comes to Morgan sales. Let me know if you agree. Thanks!
