Just picked up this 1773 Virginia, no period. Guessing it's just your run of the mill Virginia, but hoping for better of course. Seems to be in pretty good condition comparatively.

Yes, read the thread. I also posted an image of a fake a couple weeks ago. Not sure what those have to do with the one I posted above though.

So, we meet again, this one looks pretty good. I would try to conserve
it a bit.

Thanks. In-hand it is much more of a chocolate brown without the washy look. The images are over-exposed to pick up the fine details and such. I think I'll leave this one alone. I do need to work on my coin photography skills, perhaps I'll do that right now and post another picture below that captures what it looks like in-hand.

@Keith67 So I decided shortly after saying I wouldn't try to conserve that I would give it a shot. This is after a 16-hr Acetone soak with gentle swabbing of all surfaces every 4 hours, followed by a 24-hr Verdi-Care soak with gentle to moderates swabbing every 6 hours. Is it improved? Yes, but nothing like all the before/after pictures I see posted of coins like this miraculously becoming XF. Second image is more realistic color and brightness of coin in-hand
