Coin is well worn but I'm intrigued by a couple of things...
Reverse: Date has large 9 and 6 and it appears that the 6 is more distant. These are varieties and hold higher value per a Canadian price guide.

There are (to me) significant cracks on the reverse and a "crumpled" where the cracks meet the rim .

What do the experts think?
Are the cracks legit? Do you agree that the6 and 9are larger and that the 6 is somewhat detached?
Looking forward to your consideration and comments.

I can't comment on the 6 and 9, but those are scratches on the reverse. Note how they look like furrows.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Die Cracks are raised, not incuse. These are just scratches from Post Mint Damage ( PMD).

As far as I know, there are no varieties on the reverse of a 1896 5 cent.
I know there is a large and small date for the 1886 5 cent so what price
guide are you referring to? What you are showing is just circulation wear.
As stated, those are scratches, not cracks. Considered damage.

Thank you very much for your responses. My duh! about the cracks being incuse.
To respond to the question of what price guide I use - it's typically Coins and Canada, sometimes NGC, the Saskatchewan Club. I hail from southern Ontario so I've seen quite a bit of Canadian coinage and paper.
Again thanks one and all.
