Took a look at some pennies in storage and closer inspection revealed this. A separation/break on the side of the coin, and protruding out of the crack are metal fibers. The interior also appears to striated. Any explanation? Normal for the interior to be composed this way? Thanks

It is damage.
It has been scraped pushing some of the copper plating
of of the edge. The rest of the cent looks normal.
