Surprisingly, there is little value in this, maybe around $1? At least that's the price I will be willing to pay for it.

So, this is printed during the times of the old republic (1930), right before WWII. At that time in China, the country was extremely unstable, with the Nationalist government getting ever more corrupt and the Communist resistance gaining steam in the north. Inflation was rampant back then; the regular Yuan was printed with million denominations and there were shortages everywhere. China was still getting carved into pieces by the western powers and Japan.

But, there needed to be customs payments to other countries and the government itself, and here is where this note comes in. The CGU was fixed against the dollar and gold, so ... actually, here's the wiki link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chines...ms_gold_unit

But in the end, this GCU went the way of the original yuan and lost its value. My dad told me that his mother had to go to the market with a bag of this and yuan to exchange for an equal bag of rice.

Lots of interesting note types were produced during that period with very little value. Still interesting to collect.
