mcshilling I think you're undergrading your coin. . . . . How about: EF40

Yes, I'd say XF-40. The missing N foot in Regina is the way that they were initially struck. I guess that you could call it a "no foot". The, the mint went ahead and repunched the N so it had a "normal" foot/serif. The repunched ones are scarcer than the missing serif.

I'm at XF. It's a pretty nice coin.
Errers and Varietys.

Nice example! Solid EF, or XF if you prefer.

VF30 The hair and the ear are merging, the details of the maltese crosses are becoming indistinct, too much wear for EF.

I wouldn't take the views on the Sask website. Just concentrate on the first 2 crosses from VF-30 to XF-45. I still think that yours is an XF, looking at the hair and Rev leaves., and PCGS is a tough grader.

@CoinForMe PCGS and NGC do not grade to Canadian standards in the VF to AU range, they overgrade the majority of coins in this range. I have a friend who does quite well financing his collection by cutting out ICCS coins and having them graded by PCGS. The link provided by mcshilling is more representative of Canadian grading.

This book by Haxby & Willey is the standard for grading Canadian coins, has been for over 60 years. It is still widely available.

Okay, thanks for the information. This grading system is inconsistent, with people paying a significant amount of extra money for a plastic holder. Why bother? I own many slabbed coins, none of which I sent in to have them graded; I just bought them that way (Cheaper, in my view). I look at them and can say that some are off (±) with the grades. PCGS and ICG are totally ridiculous; I prefer NGC. They are off at times, but they look better in the holder. I think ANACS is getting a little more respect these days

Yes, I have the Haxby and Willey and it's how I've always graded my coins.
