1958-S-Altered-Lincoln?-Since-None-Were-Made?

I have been asking around about this coin I found, and one person said damaged, another said possible die chip, and the latest one said Looks like it was stamped outside the mint.

How is it that this coin looks like an S mintmark?

It looks like a D mintmark that has been damaged. That is the only mm used in 1958.
If it was stamped outside the mint, it would be incuse, not raised.

Damaged Denver. Perhaps something contacted the die and went unnoticed? It's important to remember that the dies are in reverse of the devices, letters and mint mark leaving them raised on a struck coin. Just my thoughts.

Don't ask that person any more questions.
