Hi,
I was wondering if you purchase something on the web from a U.S. company and they advertise it and sell it to you for the price shown on the web site and confirm the order for that price. Are they allowed to later say sorry that was not the correct price for that item it is this much and you have to pay more or are they bound by law to sell it to me for the price advertised originally.
Thanks
Bryan
Cheers Bryan

Hi Bryan.. I don't believe they would be bound by law, but they ought to be bound by their promise. That's terrible customer service. If you email their customer service department (I was going to say "call and speak to a manager" but then saw you were in Australia) you could point that out to them. It could also be a scam, as well. Are they still advertising the item for the same price you bought it for?

Unless it was something terribly obvious (like a couple of 0's left off the end of the price by accident) I'd be emailing everyone from the janitor on up. Most companies have a policy somewhere on their site to cover cases like that (price/data errors), though. If you do decide to try to hold them to it, good luck, and keep us posted!

It turns out to be a big mistake on his behalf. The coin in question was put on the web site for $1.30 but in fact it was meant to say $1030 so quite a large difference. So need less to say he would not sell the coin to me but he did refund all my money. The thing is though it was priced at $1.30 on the web site for about 2 weeks.
The reason asked the original question was that in Australia if someone makes a mistake like that. They have to rectify it within in a couple of days and make it general knowledge there was a mistake, it is called an over at large and they have to honour the price that the person purchased the item for irrespective of the loss they make.
Cheers

Quite!!

In the US, there are few federal consumer protection laws, these are issues dealt with by the state Attorneys General of the individual states that you purchase items in.

Ahh the age of the internet... where $1030 becomes $1.30 overnight! I LOVE IT!!
