Just an update from Canada ...
The government here stopped minting pennies in 2012.
My bank which previously was only accepting pennies but not selling or giving them out have now switched to selling them to customers with the proviso that they do not bring them back (to the bank/branch).
Evidently the security/transport companies are refusing to take them back to the mint (I guess its costing them money).

So how many pennies cents do you want to get stuck with? Since they are not demonetized it is still illegal to melt....

Moved it for you.

I have 6 tubes of copper cents but I am not really stuck with them,
I save them for new collectors or anyone looking for certain dates.
I got rid of all my plated ones years ago. I'm sure most people that still
have cents are keeping them for a reason.

I have 5-6 boxes of copper and zinc hoping to go through and make up several sets of one from each year for any new collector's.

Very interesting. I suppose after 14 years they no longer want to deal with reclaiming them.

I recently dealt with an estate and had several hundred dollars of pennies which I had no issue returning to the bank. That said, in roll searching I made myself a mountain of pennies to keep, which I now need to sort, grade, catalogue, etc.
