I was at the RCM site searching all 2026 items hoping to see First Strike sets to come out, and I saw a listing for special wrap rolls of 50 cent coins.
The exact listing is "50-Cent Special Wrap Circulation Roll (2026)".. Other text mentions that this roll is the only way to get the coin outside of sets. But why say "Circulation"? These coins can still technically be used in commerce, ie not de-monetized? I thought they were NCLT myself.
Would you want to see them come back into regular change, or just take the savings in mintage costs and keep them separate? I love the coat of arms design, new and old, so I'd like to see them out and about..

It would be cool if they were back in circulation, but they are pretty heavy and I suspect many people are not bothering with change anymore (myself included).

I finally cleared out my USD change a few weeks ago, it was hard to find someone that would take a roll of pennies, thankfully the dollar store stepped up. They had a cool electric scale for weighing coin rolls, after they verified, manager signed off and they took them.

I do miss sorting change though.

Up here in Canada, if they really put 50 cent pieces into circulation, all the stores would complain bitterly. With the loonies and toonies, there's no place in the cash register to put them

I do collect the 50 cent pieces but I don't think we need them back in change.

I have cashed some extras in at the bank and the new tellers think they are fake and have to ask a senior teller what to do.

We should do that down here, too. Cost way too much to make the five cents coin.

The mint produced a significant volume of 50 cent coins in 2002 in recognition of Queen Elizabeth II's jubilee celebration. Although collectors likely bulked up, they were widely available and taken up by the public. Anecdotally, small business and banks were unimpressed as there was a brief spike in 50 cent coin circulation, and no-one was excited about having to deal with the coins. I do however love the look of the coins and have accumulated more than my kids will ever want to have to deal with someday!

But why say "Circulation"?

As PL strikes are gone, Circulation strikes make up the UNC sets these days. If you want a nice one, go Specimen or proof.
