A reminder about the 2009 nickels and dimes: Neither of these will have any business strikes in ther name.

Were they 2009. If yes, they were taken from a proof set(how could that happen, though).

No, I think mklpatrick actually found them in circulation. There are a few million struck, but not anymore for the time being.

What was the end price on them? Last time I saw them they were around $40

OOPS, I checked the source of the info. It says that none were being minted FOR THE TIME BEING, bout a few were minted. Say, the '09 nickel and dime could have the lowest mintages for any business strike release since the turn of the millennia.

Which mint has stopped producing ? It would seem S mint dimes are easily available whereas the P mint is going for silly money currently.
Nickels are getting even more,is it essentially P mint coins that have ceased ?

Thanks for that wd1040 ,Why is the S mint nickels and dimes going fairly cheap whereas the P mint is getting silly money ? I'm unsure still about D mint or prices but the P mint is outstripping all the others in value it seems on the ebay.

I think that's because S mints are proofs, and as of now they're still readily available and easy to acquire. As for business strikes... well, there aren't really any.

It was news months ago, that the Mint had already minted all of the dimes and nickels for the year that they were going to mint.
This was due to many things......mainly the economy. Layoffs, cutbacks, etc. etc. etc
And it was said that this may also apply to other denominations in the very near future this year....so far I don't know whether or what those might be.
Remember too that Fed Resv's. and most other large banks are/were chocker blocked "FULL" of coinage. They didn't/don't want to order any more for the entire year and maybe beyond, so this was a deciding factor to "lower the mintages" as well. All of the National stockpiles of coins are FULL ! They don't want/need any more !
But keep in mind too.....it's not unprecedented that the Mint changes their mind on something ! .......

I don't know if I'd go THAT far ! .....

The bad economy and banks not having a need for any more coinage hardly needs to be attributed to Obama's regime ! ..... ....(in fact, many people think that Obama tripling the National Debt is not a brilliant way to proceed !..)
There was no "Presidential Directive" pertaining to this at all. In fact, it would solely be "Congress" and the Mint Director who deals with this anyway. "Conditions on the ground", so to speak, will likely dictate some of this stuff. But who's to say that Congress will act "smartly" on anything "coin-related" anyway right ? ...
