I recently got this from an auction in the US.

Funny enough - it was a large world banknote auction, and it was listed with the Jamaica notes instead of the Canadian ones, which may have helped me get a good deal on it.

Well it does say "Kingston Jamaica" on it.

Be interesting to hear from someone who knows.

Congrats on this fascinating piece of history and new acquisition.

But also for your keen eye.

It appears you may have found something other's had missed.

It's not Canadian, it was not redeemable in Canada, it does properly belong in world notes.

Google the Pick catalog # found on the front of the PMG holder (S139) and you'll find a wealth of information about your note.

& we weren't using £ in the 30's (the last time I checked) but $. Some of our Chartered banks issued notes for Jamaica (& the other islands too, I believe). Barclays & the Canadian Bank of Commerce were 2 other banks that issued notes in Jamaica.

And that £1 from the Bank of Nova Scotia is a very rare note! Congrats on your win!

Here's the Numista entry on S-139 Jamaican £1 from the Bank of Nova Scotia:

I mean that is fair but it is listed in the Charlton catalog of Canadian chartered banknotes and, I imagine, most of the market is Canadian collectors.

There are a bunch of UK tokens that are more recognized as Canadian tokens and are often posted in that category or at least have both labels.
