Hello, first off I know very little on Capped Bust Halves, they are just not my coin. Recently I came across a few that I couldn't refuse. Today when I was getting them ready for selling and storage, I noticed my 1834 had tiny little lines around the entire edge of the coin in between the edge wording. My other Capped halves are smooth and have nothing between the letters. Researching online, every reference I went on showed the same thing in pictures, smooth between the words. Not a single mention of the reeded or wired edge not any images of those little lines. Am I just stupid, possible counterfeit, or do I actually have something. I appreciate any help greatly.

Looks normal to me - from 1807 to 1836 they had a lettered edge but not with the reeds - reeded edges started in late 1836

So, does the 'reeds' look like they were added later on?

The edge is perfectly fine. That is an experimental lettered edge.

"Most specimens show vertical lines (somewhat lightly impressed) between the words, "FIFTY CENTS OR A HALF DOLLAR". The vertical line style was accepted and continued through the end of the series." from the book Bust Half Fever by Edgar Souders. It's mostly seen on later dated Bust Halves.

Dearborn, everything I saw said the same, that was the edge for 1836 onwards. Well my coin is 1834...... And every picture and mention I see referencing this only applies to a couple of the lines on either side of the star, and only there. Not around the entire coin like mine. I can't find a single picture showing that or any reference mentioning that. Only what you said, that it was added 1836 onward. That's why I asked if there is a possibility mine is fake.... I don't know the Overton varieties but I believe it is a small date small letter variety. I'm sure my coin is nothing special, I'm not that lucky. But I looked and looked and looked and looked and found nothing yet. I'm no newbie either, I have a nice collection of varieties, just not a Capped Bust guy. I've only owned 3 in my entire 40+ yrs of collecting. One of the other Capped halves I have is a really nice 1824/4 variety in EF condition I Cherrypicked from my local coin store for $60 2 yrs ago. He was one of those old timer collectors thatonly recognized one.variety, 1955 1c doubled die, that's it. I picked a few from him over the years.

It is just a regular, real bust half with an experimental lettered edge. No added value.
