I have here for your viewing enjoyment...a 2008 Hawaii Statehood Quarter. The problem is that in the 1959, the first 9 is partially filled with coin material. Is this an error, a variety or some other variant?
I did my best trying to make a good image, but I'm all thumbs when putting a picture in a picture and that sort of thing. It took me an ungodly amount of time to get an arrow pointing at the defect.
Empty_Pockets, that's a Die Chip. It's considered a die event, rather than an error. When the dies get worn from striking many planchets, stuff like this happens.
