I'm new at coin collecting and I found this in jar of change.It weighs 1.77.

This is actually something we call a dryer or a spooned coin and could not have left the mint looking like this. So we call this post mint damage of a rather extreme case.

Dryer Coin, not uncommon and classed as damage.

Sure looks like a typical Dryer Coin but what would account for the light weight? Getting caught in an area where something was rubbing on the surface wearing it down?
