Over the years I made more mistakes than I care to admit . The safest approach might be the olive oil bath Extended time ( perhaps months !) livingwater Pillar of the Community United States 2212 Posts	Posted 05/07/2026 07:24 am There's info online, posts here on CCF and on Youtube how to safely clean an ancient coin. You don't want to harshly clean them, scratch them or take off the original patina down to the bare copper, that would ruin it's value. In your case I wouild not try taking off the green part or the dark areas around the letters, you might damage the brown part of the patina if you don't know what you are doing. If you want to learn how to clean ancient coins buy a few cheap late Roman bronze ones to experiment on before messing with a more valuable coin. Report this Post to the Staff
