Empty_Pockets Valued Member United States 290 Posts	Posted 05/26/2026 09:40 am I would go with wild boar as well. There are two tusks and rhinos don't have two horns or do they? Report this Post to the Staff

january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5186 Posts	Posted 05/26/2026 11:04 am I googled "Roman coin with rhinoceros" and my search immediately sent me to the CoinArchives results for Domitian quadrans types featuring an extremely similar design. So maybe it is a rhinoceros. ...though apparently all four of the relevant rhino types have different obverse designs, and this simple SC obverse with just a wreath and no further legend isn't associated with the rhino reverse. I'm not very sure what's going on here. Hope it's not a fake. [EDIT: found one with just a wreath! https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=596806] [EDIT 2: it's Domitian RIC 254 = Numista 251684 (though no picture there). Apparently a rare type and possibly a mule.] Edited by january1may 05/26/2026 11:10 am Report this Post to the Staff
