I would say the coin had some sort of acid bath that removed some of the copper core.

This appears to be just 'damage' to me. Perhaps a buried coin in high acidic soil.

BTW, it goes all the way around. But I guess it doesn't matter. 3 pros say it's damaged, so I'll accept it.
