There seem to be lots of theories but no clear examples especially for the numbered tokens that I could gather. It seems logical that they would need to be cheap to make/acquire and be a substitute for legal tender for some purpose. It also seems logical to me that the numbers would be a means of authenticating the token rather than just a manufacturer id or token type id.
It also seems strange that there aren't alot of people around who have actually used these "numbered" tokens and know exactly what the numbers represented unless they are much older than I think. Apparently none of them have read these topics though :-). Anyway, they are interesting items with a story or mystery behind them and that's what I enjoy so thanks again for the link. With every post/topic I learn something new!
