Someone tried to make a hole in it, and someone also succeeded. Might have been the same someone. And now I have it.
Once again, while the hole kinda sucks, it's part of the coin's story. Maybe it saved a soldier in the Civil War from a very, very tiny musket round. Or maybe not since it would have gone right through. OK, maybe the hole was made with a drill by someone in the wake of the war going to find a fortune in the gold fields of New Zealand. Who can say? Perhaps Lee or Grant themselves held this at some point.
Anywho, my question: which variety is it? And I know, the "1" is not there for diagnostic purposes. C'est la vie. Gots to work with what we gots.
