(You may have seen my post concerning the coins I inherited as well)

My great grandfather passed away on Monday, and I inherited a bunch of his old currency. Any help for a total non-numismatist (sp.?) on value, if there is any?

Interesting Bill-Square-Shaped, "One Yen" on front, "Military Currency" on top border, various Japanese symbols on it. Back says "Issued Pursuant to Military Proclamation".

1928A Silver Certificate $1-Crisp with a very small tear and a tiny stain. Serial number is Z33818556A

1976 $2-Uncirculated, from "A" print run. St. Louis FRB.

1953 $2 with Red Ink-Many rips and yellowish tint.

1935E Silver Certificate $1-Serial number is *40980151D. Dirty but no rips.

Leather case. Front says "The United States of America's Two Dollar Bicentennial Commemorative Bill", "First Date of Issue-April 13, 1976". Within the case is a sealed 2 dollar bill from the Phildelphia FRB. Ser. # C08535694A. There is also a letter from the Franklin Mint stating that it is authentic and obtaine on the First day of the bill's release, etc. There is also a sealed certificate of authenticity.

Finally, a Confederate States of America One ollar Bill in amazingly good shape considering its age. Dated Feb. 17th 1864. Strong signatures.

Picture requests will be fufilled. Any other questions, ask away.

I appreciate the help.

There's not much in the military yen because the US government flooded the country with them (they were called toilet paper money in Japan) but the other few are very interesting!

And yes, please post pics. Paper money like coins are all about condition.

to the forum,

Sorry to hear about your loss. The $2 bill in the case is valued at about $6.00. I not sure if the confederate note is real I would need to see a better picture. On the large $1 note need to know the signatures, grade wise it looks VG-F so @$30.00. The next $2 note based on condition is values at about $3.00 and the small one dollar star note series 1935E is valued at @$2.00

The signatures are W.O. Wood and A.M. Mellon. What exactly do you need to see on the Confederate one to determine authenticity?
Rest in Peace

Looks like "facsimile" or "replica" on the lower left reverse of the CSA note. Sorry.

Another way to tell fake CSA notes (especially for ones that don't have "facsimilie" printed on them) is to look up the serial number on a website like this one. In this case, the $1 with No. 82129 appears to be a widely produced copy. Example here.

The 1928A Woods-Mellon $1 note is valued at @$10 with that signature and condition.
