I had to have this coin after Ed showed it to me. I do not really collect these (where have I heard that before ?) But when I saw the really sweet clash on the obverse and the super awesome die crack/break on the reverse along with the reverse clashing ...Buy Me Buy Me Buy Me was all I heard . Nice lump of metal in the "M" of AMERICA.

I figure it for a cleaned (but not real harshly) XF . Would the cleaning knock it back a grade ? I did not think it would so I paid XF money for it. All opinions appreciated !

Neat little coin, lots of stuff going on with this one. With the cleaning I'm going to say AU-53.

Wow! That reverse die crack is awesome! And lots and lots of details on this one! Too bad about the cleaning but still way nice!

I agree AU-53 to AU-55 looks about right.

Wow, what a strong clash. It's obviously the cause of the reverse die crack, and I cannot imagine that die surviving for more than a very few strikes after the clash. As far as grading, I'd call it AU Details, Net XF, but likely worth good AU money to the right collector.

As if you're going to ever sell it.

I'd go with the herd here and agree that you have XF detail on an cleaned AU coin. That's some die crack, all right, and the clashing is really interesting. I have always had a fascination with the the whole arrows/rays thing. I always imagine people shaking their heads in resignation when then were saying "Less silver? They'd better not do this with gold coins!" LOL The cleaning hasn't ruined the coin at least. I just passed on a cleaned 1911-D quarter eagle in similar condition but only because it would be hard to sell. You're not selling so if you don't mind the cleaning, well who cares? :D

When you hear the "buy me" song in your brain, just obey! It means you saw something you liked, and as long as you haven't paid stupid ridiculous money for it, you're fine.

Or in this case.... Extremely Fine! (Oh that was bad, sorry)

Enjoy your new specimen!

Thanks everyone for your opinions, everyone seems to be in agreement ! If I ever throw a type set together I am better than halfway there with some pretty neat stuff. Picked up a Chinese counter-stamped Trade dollar this week pretty cheap...more on that later.

And right SuperDave...That coin will probably not see another owner until I go to the big Coin Shop in the sky

I gotta go to work for a dealer. Trouble is, even if paid I'd probably end up at a net loss on the job.

You face that problem?

I do face that problem SuperDave, I have not left that shop with one cent in salary for quite awhile now, but since it is a second job...I am lucky to be in this circumstance. I usually spend more than I make, it seems like all week nothing really nice or interesting finds it way to me...then on Saturday (Payday) I find ten different coins I just have to have...

Funny thing is, when I offered my services to them when it got real busy about a year and a half ago- I told them I would do it for free. Of course the owner insisted I be paid (whew) But when I started it was only a couple days a week, now I am full time. I don't make a ton of money there, but the coins I get more than make up for it ! I have had a "net loss" for awhile now, but his no interest take it home and pay as you go philosophy- for loyal customers- helps alot ! Some of the guys that come in sell on ebay, they get a bunch of coins, sell them , and then pay for them the next week...everybody's happy ! Life is GOOD ! I wish everyone could have a dealer like this in town.

The problem is cost, of course, in that renting a shop and paying for utilities eats away at things. I thinkn your dealer there is a genius... don't compete with the ebayers, supply 'em!

To put it another way, give away the razors and make them buy the blades.
