Hello, here is a 1855-O half dollar, I noticed it had some kind of doubling (and like always I Immediately think it's a Doubled Die). Some stars are doubled some are tripled.
On the reverse there is something going on with the "ED" in "UNITED".
Any thoughts of what kind of doubling this is on the obverse? reverse?

Thanks.

all of the 'outline' that you see is Longacre' doubling.

That is: a doubling that is commonly seen on coins designed by Longacre.
It occurred as a result of the punching of the die. The exact causes are too long to explain right here, but it is normal and not unusual on Seated coinage, or Indian Head cents.

It is NOT a Doubled Die, nor Strike Doubling.

However, it is unusual to see it on coins with that much wear.
