Dear Sirs Several years ago I was given two coins of very similar size and colour, both about the same circumference and diameter as a sixpenny piece, but a lot thinner. Coin No 1,
On one side has around it's perimeter the words, Victoria Queen of Great Britain 1863 , with her head embossed in the centre, and on the other side it has, The Three Welsh Feathers embossed in the centre, with words around the perimeter, which I can only make out a few to say, The Prince of Wales, followed by some roman numerals. Coin No 2,
On one side has around it's perimeter the words, Victoria Queen of Great Britain 1854, with her head embossed in the centre, and on the other side it has, around it's perimeter the words, Napoleon Emperor of France 1856, with his head embossed in the centre, Please could you offer any information on these as I know nothing about them. Yours sincerely,
Mr.Paul Tudor.

These are not coins, but "jetons" or "counters", used as coin substitutes in games of chance, or as play money.
I have one of the Victoria / Napoleon pieces. I bought it at a local coin club auction here in Australia for a couple of dollars back in the 1990's.

G'day, the Emperor Napoleon III spent several periods in his life in England: before becoming President in 1848; and after he was deposed as Emperor in 1870. He died, and is buried in England. I have seen tokens or medallions, marking the occasion of a visit by Napoleon III to Britain about 1856 (can't lay my hands on a pecise reference). Bear in mind the Britain and France were successfully allied in the Crimean War (1854~1856). Perhaps your "Coin No 2" commemorates the War, or the Emperoror's visit; or both ? see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napole...II_of_FrancePeter in Oz
