Going through all the change I have been saving for the last several months and noticed..............in about $60 of nickels, dimes and cents, only had 2 OIV nickels. Did they make a lot less of these then the buffalo?

Buffs seem to be plentiful but not the OIV. Never occured to me there might be such a big difference and wondered if there were a reason for it?

Thanks
Margaret

Yes, the Ocean in View nickel has a smaller mintage than the Buffalo, the Keel Boat and the Peace Medal nickels. I think it will take a few years for that to impact the market but it is coming. I managed to really buy up the Buffalo and the OV nickels in proofs, unc. satins from mint sets and, of course bank rolls. I really pursued the OV as it seemed the rest of the nation buffalo hunted the whole year. As always time will tell whether I was on the ball or under it!!!

So YOU have all the OV nickels then! And I thought I heard you only hoarded buffalo's I do have several in the mint/proof sets I bought last year but these are the only two I have gotten in circulation. Strange that I am just now noticing that! Wonder what other important things I am missing.

Guess I'll be keeping my eye out for a few more, that is if you don't get the rest of them before then! Sure hope you have sturdy floors in your house!!!

It is amazing what a case of nickels weighs! I keep my proofs in airtites and my satins are mixed between 2X2's and the original mint packaging. After I went hog wild on the buffalo's I realized most folks would continue their hunt for the Buffalo nickel as they were pretty scarce here and because of the errors found. I moved on the the OV pretty quickly and bought while they were reasonalby priced. At times I feel I have nickels everywhere!!! Kind of strange as I don't have much desire when it comes to a nickel unless of course it is the classic Indian/Buffalo!
