Hi all,

I'm not even sure this falls into the "medal" category. It's large, nearly 3 inches in height, and very heavy. The dates near her feet read 1227-1927. Anyone have any information on it?

That is what is known as a plaquette medal. I do not know much about it other than being able to recognize the medal type. If no one else can help you with it, I know of an ebay seller who specializes in art medals. You may want to try contacting him, ID is radray. I have won a few medals from him in the past couple years and he seems to be a friendly and knowledgeable fellow.

Leitmeritz is in Bohemia, where it gained city status in 1227.

I would presume that 1927 is the 600th anniversary of that event.

The design looks like art deco, and that would seem to agree with the 1927 anniversary date.

Pretty piece.

Add 100, and I agree. Actually the text at the bottom says that - LEITMERITZ 700 JAHRE STADT. The place (Litomerice, CZ) had a significant German language population in the early 20c, which would explain the German inscription. As for what is depicted, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:L...quare_03.jpg
