Hi,

I am very close to buying a 1983 coin pack containing the famous "new pence" 2p mule, uncirculated. (It should have read "two pence" instead!)
Does anyone here have any real idea of the value of this? Apparently only around 30 sets were made available.

Thanks!

According to the article in another thread (linked below), they mention the value as this:

Quote:
The 1983 2p mule is currently worth a few hundred pounds

Here is the thread with the article:

http://www.predecimal.com/newpence.htm has information

The 637,100 1983 dated coins that were produced all went into special sets containing one of each coin from that year. In a few of those sets the 2p coin was struck with the older ('New Pence' type) reverse by mistake and is indeed very rare.

The 1983 2p Coin with 'New Pence' on the reverse is the only rare coin, all of the others are very common and were struck in very high numbers.

All I've got is a 2004 edition Spink catalogue of British coins; it gives the value of the mule at £400. The mule has a separate entry in the book, where it's given the Spink number 4236A.
