I'll bump this too, and add that the old shilling/5 new pence was the same size as the 1 Deutsche Mark, which was worth... 10x more? ... I think.... so many people defrauded vending machines by using the 5p instead of the mark.

http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/coins.html is the place that I normally look at for an idea of what UK coins are worth.

I only been in the UK since 1998 so, I don't know alot about the predecimal coins.

I believe that your pre-1968 coins do have silver in them.

The first 5 pence and 10 pence coins were issued in 1968 as far as I know.

5 pence switched to a smaller design in 1990 and in 1992 for the 10 pence.

Hopefully others can be more helpful.

Nope, sorry. Britain stopped putting silver in their coins in 1947; none of these dates have silver.

The florins are worth slightly more:

1954 and 1957 seem to be the key dates, £40 in UNC and £5 in EF. 1958 and 1959 are also worth a bit, similar but not so much as the other two.
The rest are 1955-56 £6 for UNC, 1960-61 £5 UNC, 1962-65 £4 UNC and 1966-67 £2 UNC

The most expensive 10p is 1980-81 which is 75p UNC

For your shillings, 1956 is £10 UNC, and 1957 £4 UNC and 1955 £5 UNC, the rest are worth no more than 20p in UNC.

Sap is right , further to that is from 1920 to 1947 its only 50% silver , prior to 1920 UK silver coinage was 92.5% silver, almost pure.
