yotie Pillar of the Community United States 3077 Posts	Posted 07/21/2009 09:27 am i have been pulling red cents out when I roll search and when I get a couple 100 I go back through them and all reds are not the same also I have noticed some coppers that I pull out that are full brown actually have better details then some of the reds so this is my delemia can a brown cent get an MS grade and are there red VF coins ? A coin in MS starts out red but may tone to a brown not changing its MS number e.g. MS60. A VF red coin probably has been cleaned at some point, I can't see a coin grading VF and being red naturally. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 07/21/2009 10:38 am Once in circulation, the original mint red color disappears quickly from oxidation. I have never seen an original Red coin in less than AU55/58 condition but Red-Brown can go down to AU50/EF45. Anything that has circulated to EF/VF will certainly be Brown. Of course on the opposite end, Heritage has sold Brown small cents with grades as high as MS67. Report this Post to the Staff
