1871-Liberty-Seated-Dollar-Purchase,-Help-Authenticating?

Purchased this on bad pictures from a seller who had other less often counterfeited coins up, so I figured I'd give it a go due to the return policy (I didn't pay much).

I think it grades 'choice VF' or maybe a little better, but I would like to know if there is any sign that it is a fake.

There is a pretty heavy rim ding, but that's honestly the only thing I can see wrong with it. The obverse bulges just the tiniest/almost undetectable amount, which I assume would be a die bulge, right? I have seen this on a few other coins and it will not show up in the photo...and unless I look at it really hard, I cannot see it.

So I need some help with this, just making sure it is authentic, evaluating it, etc.

Picture is a little dark, but from what I can see the coin looks fine to me. That's a good size rim ding which will probably drop the grade a little. I'd grade it as VF-25.

Oh yeah good point, if that were factored in it probably wouldn't grade as high.

This is another coin I wouldn't buy raw off of ebay due to abundance of counterfeits. That being said, nothing strikes me as fake about this coin, but I'm far from an expert and there are very good fakes out there. I agree with echizento at VF-25. Nice coin!

Looks genuine to me with close to EF details. I'd go higher than VF25 probably VF35.

Looks good to me. If they are counterfeiting coins this well, we are in big trouble. I too would go with VF+, with some detraction from the rim damage.

LOL, yeah. It looked real to me too, but I have not seen a good amount of counterfeits. I figured that given the seller, it is highly unlikely that it is a fake, but it is possible that they bought a fake and didn't realize it. Then again if they bought it awhile ago, it'd probably be a bad one.

You think PCGS would Genuine it because of the ding? Should I send it to ANACS? I might do a bulk submission eventually and because my local dealer was confident it is real I am too, but I assume I will have difficulty selling it.

I can't see how bad that ding is while it's in the 2x2. Seated dollars often get some breaks. PCGS would be iffy.
