Requesting grade comments. This is 90% silver and has been kept in my collection for so long, Thanks!

Nice coin Nic, There has been some good reading lately on the Phili silvers. These all too often are beaten and thrown around since they book so low. Kept by most as just old silver workhorses. Since the 40's era mintage numbers were so high, the demand for collectors never really matched up and they have been left to being melted in huge numbers. Even as recent as the past year a huge number of them met the furnace. This is not reflected in the values since they are still invisible to most newer collectors. No way to know how many actually are still surviving.

Obviously your coin is no melter. Yours has a great strike and has led a very sheltered life.

Unfortunately without a more crisp pic I can't go too deep into offering my opinion of grade. That said, even a cursory look shows it at very least into the AU category but trying to get really specific wont be possible with pictures provided.

Any way to get a cleaner pic? Much of the finer detail is lost in the scan.

One note of correction is that this coin is not 90% silver as US spec planchets were not used, it is 75%. The rest of the specs are 10g 27.5mm 0.2411 oz ASW. It is difficult to accurately grade from the grainy appearance of the scan but it is certainly an above-average strike and I do not see any reason why it would not make MS-63(provided that the scan is not hiding any rub).

Thanks RFB, the image is a GIF, which was my first try at this, now am training real hard on this jpeg which I was told should be a cleaner pic. Will keep that in mind for my next coin pics uploaded

Thanks biokemist6! that 75% is a revelation! and the data/info is very technical, could you advise please the link or http where I can further study history and coinage of these Philippine-USA coins? (Years 1900 to 1945)

best regards friends!

Numismaster has a World lookup with basic stats free, mintage and value are part of a subscription service.
