Knowing nothing about copper large cents this one looked good to me..how bad did I mess up ?

That depends, what does the reverse look like?
and, how much did you pay?

Possibly a lite obv cleaning, but not too bad.

Detail of a VF surfaces are a little dark, slightly porous but glossy. I'd net grade it as a F-15 and wouldn't mind owning it at all. There are a LOT of die varieties for that date and they range from common to very rare. Makes it an interesting year to collect.

i agree. net F-15 seems about right for this decent looking coin.

Cheers Johnny , I actually took 2 from the sale I was at.At first I thought this was the nicer of the two.Im beginning to think the other is probably better condition.Ill get hold of a pic of that one.
