What is the magnification power used to spot varieties on LMC's. A loupe just is n't working to well. I think at this rate I may go blind. It also seems to give me a headache. Edited by chris12018 07/30/2009 06:08 am

What kind of loupe do you have? The $5-10 cheapies do nothing but mess with your eyes. I would recommend a quality Bausch&Lomb or Eschenbach magnifier, it will make a world of difference.

A Bausch & Lomb Hastings Triplet 10X Magnifier is a very good place to start. I have had mine for 30 plus years. It will set up back $30-40.

I use an ANCO doublet 14x and it works great. I used a 10x doublet for about twenty years before I had to use the 14x. I only paid around $10 for the 14x. If I could afford it I would buy a Hastings triplet in a 14x if they make a 14x. John1

i tried searching with a 30X loupe (cheap one). I found it didn't get me any closer to finding the variety coins. I got an inexpensive 60x-100X scope. it seems to be working adequately. my biggest complaint is that it gives me too small of a viewable portion of the coin at a time. also the platform can only hold cents, nickels, or dimes. the larger coins do not fit on the platform.

chris12018, Depending on how much you want to spend you could get a usb digital microscope for under $100. Just wanted to give you another idea. John1

Thanks John, I have been checking them out. Now, I have to find one that I can test drive. I do like the idea.
