I typically put all my coins in 2x2 cardboard flips then into a binder. However there are some coins that simply defy standard storage means. I'm currently trying to figure out how to store some thick 18th century Swedish 2 Ore copper coins. They are roughly the size of a US half dollar, but at least twice as thick. If I stuff them in a 2x2 then they are nearly busting out of it. I am afraid that these thick, heavy coins will damage adjacent coins in the binder. Any thoughts?

I tried that. The coins are just too thick. The air tites don't even come close to snapping shut.

For really thick coins. 0.7 cm or more I use the big 1 dollar 2x2's.
The ones I have are non adhesive, opposed to the adhesive 2x2's that I have.
Used for my Ceylon Duits.

I have some coins that won't make it into a 2x2 for dollars any which way, or even the 3x3's I have gotten hold of, so I just keep them in acid free paper containers outside my albums. Not ideal, but what can one do? I am rather susceptible to large coins...anyone else have a 1970s 20 balboa from Panama?

For bulky or high-relief coins I use 2x2 sized mylar flips, the same kinds I use for my ancients (and many ancients also fall into the "too thick for a 2x2" category).

But generally, I solve the problem by size exclusion. My collecting motto is, "If it doesn't fit in a 2x2, I don't really want it". No Swedish plate money for me!

I use Crown 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 stapled holders for all of my crowns - they might work on the Sweedish coins. I never store coins in pages - I use boxes.

Put the coin in a 2x2 mylar flip. Insert the non-coin side into the page, so you don't overly stretch that slot. The coin will be flopping out in front. Maybe leave the corresponding slot in the previous page blank, for cushioning. The blank slot in the previous page can be filled with a decorative label or something.

Thanks guys. I think that the mylar flip idea will work well.
